Description
This is a beautiful and very unique sculpture. Inuit busts are very uncommon. The style is rough although there is much detail in the face. It is well carved and polished with rough lines around cheeks and eyes. This piece is characterized by the imperfect stone with its two big spots of rust/green/white below the lip and one side of the face/hair. The deformed rock contributes to a non-symmetrical face. We feel that its roughness points to an older carving. Abstract.
Artist: Unknown- syllabic signature on side (possibly Oolamik, Baker Lake but needs further confirmation).
