Description

This piece is carved in a primitive style - both in terms of the lack of detail on the body and the primitive-style of the eyes.  Its greatest detail is around the snout and mouth.  Rolls of skin are carved on its back.  It was carved using hand tools out of very hard black stone.  Very tactile.  Tusks are ivory.  One tusk has been glued.  Scratches and pitting consistent with age.  Black Arctic stone. No discernible markings.  Est. 1950s.
