Leaning Thin Hunter with Seal
Description
This sculpture is unique in two ways. The sculptor carved using the nature of the stone and as a result the body of the hunter is very narrow. Interestingly, the hunter both leans forward and sideways in a delicate balancing act. The base is a parallelogram. This is Inuit sculpting displaying heavy stone architecture balancing like dancing bears. The face and parka are well carved but are unnaturally thin. There is detailed etching on the parka, gloves and seal. Arctic stone. Marked DO and numbered 1-91010. Est. 1970s to 1980s. There are missing unknown pieces on the right side from the hand to the harpoon; it is not broken. This masterfully designed and sculpted piece has been discounted accordingly.
Missing obvious piece(s), partial harpoon
