Description
Amy Thompson (1971-present) is a popular, Ottawa based visual artist. She studied Fine Art at York University and graduated with Honours from the Ontario College of Art and Design in 1995. Her work has exhibited across Canada, the US and Europe. Thompson’s works create introspective narratives that are often nostalgic and whimsical. Her work explores themes of memory, childhood and the natural world. Amy's work has centred on re-contextualizing imagery from the 40's and 50's through mixed media - drawing, painting and collage.
Amy Thomson in “Old School portrays a young boy earnestly working at a school desk. The collage includes numbers, letters of the alphabet, lined and graph paper, as well as elements of nature such as flowers and the fox. This work has an ambiguous interpretation leaving meaning up to the viewer. 2008 Mixed Media – collage on paper.
